Rye Heritage Centre is situated at the Strand Quay, opposite the river where boats moor after sailing up the harbour mouth, from the sea.
The Heritage Centre should be your first stop, as it contains the Tourist Office. This is staffed by an expert team of ladies, who can give you information or advice on anything local. You can book accomodation there or on the website.
The Old Pier working Models and 1d games Exhibition, is upstairs, in the centre. This is a fully working, old penny arcade & not to be missed.
The amazing Town Model is here too. This is a sound and light show. You sit around a fantastic model of the town, as it was in the old days, and the history unfolds. This is a good thing to do before you explore Rye, as you can then recognise places and link them to the fascinating stories such as the Monk and his lover, who were entombed in a wall.
You can pick up brochures, postcards and souveniers from the centre.
You can hire the audio walking tour, which is your own, personal guide to the places and history of Rye. Simply place the headphones on and go. The tapes are available in several languages.
